D Day today...

D Day for the new Kogan netbook. As in delivery day, its 12.25pm (arvo) and no chocolates just yet but they said around lunchtime so I better go have some lunch and check the batteries are charged in the camera.
Don’t forget I am going to try and do some on camera comparisons with the MSI Wind which we also have, so stay tuned
Update 3.03pm Rang Toll the couriers and my parcel was still sitting in the Geelong Depot at 1.30pm, the driver did not go back for it this morning, anyway after a few heated words they agreed to get it out to me this afternoon...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi Rob

Are you still running gOS?

I have reinstalled several versions of ubuntu on my agora pro, and cannot get the touchpad to work! I figure Kogan has loaded on some drivers to support the touchpad, and I cannot find them.

I was wondering if you could help me out by posting the output of the following commands:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.confand

lsmodthat will show me any config info and the modules that are loaded. it would be greatly appreciated!

cheers
kayno

Hi Kayno yeah I still have it on, am happy to help you sort it out mate, but I'm not familiar with linux myself so I have not been able to work out what I need to do for you, I went to terminal and typed in the command "cat /etc/X11/xorg.confand" but I have a feeling the way it has been shown in your comment might be incorrect (the line split your comment) so can you confirm in detail what I need to type in for you? cheers
The reason I have not touched OS is everyone seems to be having trouble with alternatives...I will certainly be changing mine to XP as it works perfectly in my sons MSI WInd...

hey rob

thanks so much for the info - i am getting no where fast with my kogan at the moment!

my xorg.conf looks similar to yours, so can i get you please to run some more commands?

the following commands will write the output to a file, to make it easier for you to read and get the output (you could email me the file - kayneo@gmail.com -
if that is easier):

lsmod > ~/touchpad.txt
dmesg >> ~/touchpad.txt
modprobe -l >> ~/touchpad.txt
cat /proc/bus/input/devices >> ~/touchpad.txt

you should then have a file in your home directory called "touchpad.txt", that contains the output. Note that the first command has one ">", and the others ">>".

thank you again for helping - i owe you a beer or two :)

cheers
kayno

done and sent, gee its a long list, hope it helps bro, but Im on my way out now till about 6 (little flutter on the nags on sat's...) but will follow up anything tonight hpe you work it out. (I thought there was a secret partition on the kogan machine to recover etc???
(or that might be msi wind...oops)
But for the majority Im sure having xp pre loaded will of saved heaps of headaches, Kogan saved money by not having to purchase OEM OS but will it backfire? time will tell...cheers
